MONEL 400 strip and coil (UNS N04400) delivers reliable corrosion resistance with good formability for stamped and formed parts, gaskets, bellows, flexible hoses, cladding, and marine components. Strength can be increased by cold working to meet temper requirements.

Key Characteristics

• Excellent corrosion resistance in flowing seawater and brackish water
• Outstanding resistance to hydrofluoric acid (HF) across wide concentrations
• Good resistance to alkalis, neutral salts, and many reducing media
• Resistant to stress corrosion cracking in most fresh and industrial waters
• High strength and toughness; remains ductile at subzero temperatures
• Can be strengthened by cold working; good fabrication and weldability

Alloy 400 is a Ni-Cu solid-solution alloy (non age-hardenable) that can only be strengthened by cold working; controlled chemistry supports stable corrosion performance.

Heat Treatment Condition

• Solution Annealed
• Bright Annealed / Pickled (where applicable)

Fabrication & Welding

MONEL 400 can be readily fabricated and welded using standard nickel-alloy practices.
Common welding methods include:

• GTAW (TIG)
• GMAW (MIG)
• SMAW

Matching filler metals such as ERNiCrMo-2 are typically recommended.
