MONEL 400 wire (UNS N04400) combines corrosion resistance with good ductility for mesh, screen, springs, ties, and general marine/chemical service. It can be supplied annealed or cold-drawn in coils or spools to match forming and weaving requirements.

Key Characteristics

• Excellent corrosion resistance in flowing seawater and brackish water
• Outstanding resistance to hydrofluoric acid (HF) across wide concentrations
• Good resistance to alkalis, neutral salts, and many reducing media
• Resistant to stress corrosion cracking in most fresh and industrial waters
• High strength and toughness; remains ductile at subzero temperatures
• Can be strengthened by cold working; good fabrication and weldability

Alloy 400 is a Ni-Cu solid-solution alloy (non age-hardenable) that can only be strengthened by cold working; controlled chemistry supports stable corrosion performance.

Fabrication & Welding

MONEL 400 can be readily fabricated and welded using standard nickel-alloy practices.
Common welding methods include:

• GTAW (TIG)
• GMAW (MIG)
• SMAW

Matching filler metals such as ERNiCrMo-2 are typically recommended.
